GUIDELINES FOR SCIENCE AND MEDICINE FUNDING

Before completing an Application Form prospective applicants should go to the following link for a detailed explanation of our selection process for these Grants - "CASS Selection Process"

1. 2010 APPLICATIONS RESTRICTED TO VICTORIAN BASED ORGANISATIONS.

In 2010, the Foundation will consider only applications for research and development projects in Science and Medicine from Victorian organisations for projects which will be undertaken substantially in Australia.

2. FUNDS AVAILABLE

 Applications for grants up to $60,000.00 may be considered:

  • >>  for specific projects or undertakings;
  • >>  for research and development.

3. PROJECT PERIOD

Although projects extending over a longer term will be considered, projects which contemplate completion within 12 to 15 months from commencement may be given preference.

4. TYPE OF PROJECT

The Foundation welcomes what it would call “proof of concept” project applications.  What it understands by this term is that the application deals with a concept, hypothesis, postulate or the like which, by its proposed project, the applicant hopes to prove correct or to validate, to the extent that further research and development on the concept/hypothesis/postulate will be worthwhile.

This explanation is provided to indicate that, unlike some other funding bodies, CASS is prepared to consider (and indeed welcome) early development projects which are still short of the validation that might be required for, say, an NH&MRC application.

For further clarification, the Foundation will be unlikely to consider applications:

  • >> to fund surveys or questionnaires or projects based on surveys or questionnaires;
  • >> to fund government entities - however, government funded universities, research institutes and hospitals where funding for the specific research project is not available from recurrent or capital resources are eligible to apply.

5. APPLICATION FORM

Applicants should use the current application form available for downloading from this site, and take particular note of the guidelines, eligibility criteria, and critical dates for this specific grant round.

The Guidelines, key dates and eligibility are continually subject to review.

6. ELIGIBILITY

  • >> All applicants must hold an ABN and be registered for GST.
  • >> Applicants must be based in the State of Victoria.
  • >> Organisations and entities must have tax exempt status.
  • >> Deductible Gift Recipient status may assist a grant application.
  • >> Previously successful applicants are eligible to apply for funding of new projects.
  • >> Current grant recipients are eligible to apply for extension of a current project, if the extension continues to meet the set Guidelines.
  • >> Previously unsuccessful applicants may re-apply for new or previously applied for projects.

7. GOODS AND SERVICES TAX

In the event that the grant to a successful applicant is subject to GST, the amount of GST will be added to the grant. In such circumstances, the recipient must be registered for GST and the Foundation will require Tax Invoices for all grant payments.

8. GRANT PAYMENTS

It is a condition of grants that payments are made electronically into the grantee’s nominated bank account.  Bank account details must be provided prior to any payment being made.

9. HOW WE DEAL WITH YOUR APPLICATION

  • >> The Foundation may require additional information or to converse or meet with you to discuss aspects of the application.
