“Student engagement and disengagement”
From 2007-2009, The CASS Foundation provided a number of substantial grants to primary schools in inner Melbourne to implement projects of their own design to meet identified issues of student engagement and disengagement in each school setting. The School Engagement grants were informed by a literature and research survey commissioned by the Foundation in 2004 from Monash University, ‘Student disengagement from primary schooling: a review of practice and research.’ A significant finding from this survey was that the seeds of student disengagement from schooling are often sown during the primary school years. The report can be accessed in the Reports section.
In recent years (following an application process) the Foundation has offered one-year grants to selected schools in Victoria to support new, innovative, creative Arts activities and/or curriculum development programs.
